Collection: wood fired

ceramic work fired for 24+ hours at chester spring studio's wood kiln. wood kilns create a reduction atmosphere filled with ash and smoke (and in certain cases salt) fueled by a constant source of burning wood, which allow for dynamic surface effects. the temperature is significantly higher than an electric firing.

the surface affects are the result of complex interactions of melted wood ash, clay body, glaze and atmosphere in the kiln. all work is microwave, dishwasher and food safe.
